PAGE COUNTY, Va. — After multiple complaints about roadside litter were received, the Page County Sheriff’s Office (PSCO) took to social media to address concerns.
In an April 8, 2025 media statement, the PCSO wrote:
We’ve recently received multiple complaints about litter being thrown along roads throughout our county. Please be reminded that littering is illegal under Virginia Code § 33.2-802.
If the person responsible is identified, appropriate enforcement action will be taken.
Our inmate litter crew has been out across the county working hard to clean up trash along our roadsides. Let’s do our part to support their efforts by keeping our community clean.
Dispose of your trash properly, and report littering when you see it.

On Saturday, volunteers from Page County Community Works (PCCW) and Friends of the Shenandoah River worked tirelessly to collect trash from the Alma Boat Landing in Stanley. On Tuesday, the same volunteer groups collected and bagged trash found at Shenandoah Landing and River Park in Shenandoah. Discarded items included glass bottles, barbed wire, various metals, plastic bottles, an old tv, inflatable tubes, a vacuum cleaner, tires, and much more.
Virginia Code § 33.2-802 states:
It is unlawful for any person to dump or otherwise dispose of trash, garbage, refuse, litter, a companion animal as defined in § 3.2-6500 for the purpose of disposal, or other unsightly matter on (i) public property, including a public highway, right-of-way, or property adjacent to such highway or right-of-way, or (ii) private property without the written consent of the owner or his agent.
According to the PCSO, any person convicted of a violation of this code is guilty of a misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of not less than $500 and up to $2,500.
